Waltonen Engineering is actively seeking a Data Protection Specialist to join our team!

The Data Protection Specialist is the key role responsible for technical data compliance, including Trade Compliance, CUI, Export, and Intellectual Property classification.  The role will collaborate to determine classifications/protection and train on compliant data transfers.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary contact and liaison for technical Data Protection tagging within Teamcenter.
  • Assign classification of products using (a) the EAR and the CCL, (b) informed compliance publications, and (c) company engineering materials.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and can clearly articulate the appropriate HTS code as necessary.
  • Understand and interpret regulations impacting tagging, including Trade Compliance, Intellectual Property, Export Compliance, and Controlled Unclassified Information.
  • Assigns Harmonized System (HS) tariff codes, Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs), and regional trade-related-codes to primary and secondary products imported and exported in the normal course of business.
  • Works with key internal stakeholders in the review of related data and agreements to ensure compliance.
  • Support various stages of audits and assessments.
  • Prioritizes data tagging needs in the tagging workflow for all objects, ensuring timely classification based on need by date.
  • Collaborates with the Information Security function(s) to maintain records of all data assets and exports and maintains a data.
  • Perform mass updates based on regulation changes to ensure security of data.
  • Applies appropriate data protection methods (projects and licenses).
  • Subject matter export for data transfers / secure collaboration.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years in either Trade Compliance, Intellectual Property, Controlled Unclassified. Information, or Export Compliance experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Only U.S. Citizens may be considered
  • Security Clearance: Secret (Level 2) – currently possess or able to obtain.
  • Preferred proficiency in analyzing technical data including engineering drawings.
  • Extensive Classification experience.
  • In-depth understanding and experience with ECCN classification methodology.
  • Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Office applications.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with ITAR, Department of Commerce Licensing, Customs regulations, EAR, Export & Licensing regulations, Oracle.
  • Requirements and maintenance of conditions issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
  • Work with Engineering, Product Management and Supply Chain to properly assign HTS Codes, ECCN and Country of origin for all our fabricated and purchased parts.
  • Experience collaborating across markets and functions.
