Design and Process Planning Specialist - Fixture Build

The Build Process and Planning Specialist oversees the design, detailing, and processing within a fixture build environment. This role involves collaborating with various departments, including the shop floor, estimating, sales, and project management, to ensure the successful completion of projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing tooling or fixtures using NX and possess strong skills in processing and planning in a build environment.
Responsibilities
Report to Independence Tooling Operations Manager
Utilize NX & Catia software to design and detail tooling and fixtures
Develop and implement manufacturing process plans to ensure efficient production workflows
Create travelers, material, and commercial order sheets to meet project requirements
Collaborate with outside service providers to obtain quotes
Generate necessary exports from various software for different shop divisions
Produce required nesting plans for machined plate work
Work closely with the shop floor, estimating, sales, and project management teams to coordinate project activities and provide any data required to ensure projects flow efficiently
Participate in design & build reviews and provide input to project managers to ensure project goals are met
Identify and resolve issues that arise during the build process to minimize disruptions
Prepare and present progress reports to stakeholders
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency
Assist in estimating project costs and timelines as needed
Qualifications
Proven experience in designing tooling or fixtures using NX software
Strong analytical skills, proficiency in NX and other design software (preferably Catia V5)
Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
Understanding of fixture build processes, project management, and cost estimation
Working knowledge of manufacturing such as fabrication, CNC/Manual Machining, GD&T and inspection requirements, etc
Familiarity with automotive and aerospace tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges & parts
Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
Availability to work between 40 to 60 hours per week based on project demands
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience with Estimating or Program Management
